Vineyards

Bianco Spettro

Sauvignon Blanc (60%) Chardonnay (25%) Viognier (15%)
The Chardonnay is sourced from tightly spaced, Dijon clone vineyard owned by Maldonado family in the very cool and marine influenced Napa-Carneros Appellation. The Sauvignon Blanc component is sourced from the old-vine Yountmill Vineyard in Yountville. The Viognier is from the Baranek Vineyard in Clarksburg where the warm days and cool Delta evenings ripens the skin of the Rhone Valley varietal to perfection.

Sangiovese

Sangiovese (90%) Charbono (5%) Syrah (5%) The Penny Lane Vineyard is located in Oakville at the heart of the Napa Valley. This is a unique vineyard site in that it is 3/4 acre of Sangiovese is entirely surrounded by Cabernet Sauvignon. The 18 year old vines show that even fine Sangiovese can be grown on “Cab land.” Oakville is becoming more and more Cabernet focused and for any other varietal to survive, it has to be something truly special. I believe our Penny Lane Sangiovese meets that criterion. The vines are dry farmed as well to focus flavors and achieve a level of concentration that is often difficult to obtain in irrigated soils. The Charbono is sourced from the 60 year “old vine” Frediani Vineyard in Calistoga, Napa Valley. The remainder of the Syrah is sourced from Muhlner Vineyard, Napa Valley.

Scout’s Honor

Zinfandel (68%) Charbono (17%) Petite Sirah (15%)
The majority of Zinfandel and a small component of Petite Sirah were primarily taken from the Venge Vineyard (aka. The Rossini Ranch) in St. Helena. The remainder of Zinfandel came from the Moss Creek Vineyard in the gorgeous Cappelle Valley in the Eastern reaches of Napa Valley. The Charbonno averages 50 years old and is entirely sourced from the noble Frediani Vineyard in Calistoga. The Baranek Vineyard in Clarksburg supplies the balance of the 15% Petite Sirah.

Gladys’ Syrah

Gladys’ Vineyard Syrah (95%), Muhlner Vineyard Syrah (3.5%) Viognier (1.5%)
We could speak for hours about our adornment for this property’s owner, Gladys Boyd. This is not just 2/3rd acre of Syrah vines. It is a piece of her adored garden. She knows nearly every vine by shape or by name. She has a warm heart, a great story and a small and wonderful East sloping Syrah vineyard in Dry Creek Valley in Sonoma that she calls home. It is our privilege to make her grapes into wine. The vines had no problem reaching optimum maturity with excellent hang time. Gladys’ small acreage yielded a mere 1.81 tons; this represented a very balanced crop for the 2/3-acre planting. The concentration and focus of this wine takes benefit from such low yields. Muhlner Vineyard provides the rest of the Syrah from Napa Valley and the Viognier comes from Baranek Vineyard, Clarksburg.

Muhlner Steps Syrah

Syrah (97%) Merlot (3%) Napa Valley; Oakville Merlot
Located in the steep eastern mountains of Napa Valley is the Muhlner Vineyard. John and Jennifer planted their vines in 1999 under the direction of local vineyard manager David Rose. The result is a wonderful marriage of the right varietal and rootstock planted on the right sight. The vineyard is planted on carved, steep terraces with a West exposure. What I love the most about Syrah is its ability to do well is such a variety of soil and microclimate types. It can be everything from very ripe with red fruit flavors to big and rustic with an old world nature.

Oakville Estate Merlot

Merlot Estate (100%)
Our estate vineyard is located in the center of Oakville, just off the Oakville Crossroad. The vines are planted on a 7 X 12 foot pattern in a silty clay soil type and are head-trained and cane pruned. This training plays a vital role in producing a smaller cluster and berry for better color and overall concentration in the wine.

Venge Family Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon Estate (96%) Merlot Estate (4%)
The cane-pruned vines are carefully hand harvested by our own family from our Estate Grown vineyard in Oakville. The ’05 vintage was definitely one for the record books. It was a later than usual vintage with ample yields. Being a bountiful vintage required special attention to thin and balance crop loads. Now in their 17th year, these vines never receive a drop of summer irrigation since their third year in the ground.

Late Harvest Zinfandel

Zinfandel Estate (100%)
Estate vineyard in the heart of Oakville. These 10 year old vines are both rare and special in that they are head-trained and non-irrigated in the traditional fashion. Our vines experience stress to a degree where they are forced to regulate themselves and the results are amazing.
